Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khursheed Alam Khan said that evidence has been found against the former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and his family members of acquisition of known non-pecuniary wealth.
Khurshid Alam Khan said this on Thursday (June 13) afternoon. He said that evidence of Benazir Ahmed’s corruption has been found. Now if the ACC commission thinks so, then there will be a case.
ACC has so far found 12 flats in Dhaka in the name of Benji’s family. Among them, ACC had already found four flats in Gulshan. Newly, the agency has found eight more flats. Six of these flats are in a building in Dhaka’s Adabar. In two places. Badder flats are two commercial or office spaces.
Apart from this, the ACC also found about 76 bighas (25 acres) of land belonging to Benji’s family. In all, 697 bighas of land was found in the name of Benji’s family.
In view of ACC’s application, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Assamach Jaglul Hossain on Wednesday (June 12) ordered the seizure of eight flats belonging to Benjir’s family. The court also ordered the attachment of about 76 bighas (25 acres) of Benji’s family’s land and the freezing of shares in private Citizen Television and Tiger Craft Apparels Limited.
Earlier, the court ordered the seizure of 621 bigha land, 19 company shares and 4 flats in Gulshan in the name of Benazir and his family in Gopalganj, Madaripur, Cox’s Bazar and Savar in Dhaka. At that time, orders were given to freeze 30 lakh rupees savings certificates, 33 bank accounts and 3 BO accounts (Beneficiary Owners Accounts of Share Trading).
Benazir Ahmed left the country with his family on May 4 while searching for wealth. He was the IGP from April 2020 to September 2022 and earlier the Director General of RAB from January 2015 to April 2020. He also served as Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for a long time.
